.....to get ready for the 2010 season!!!

The Wildcat coaching staff will be conducting chalk talks and dryland training at LaSalle Middle School.  Gym activities will be held on Wednesdays starting at 3:30 PM in the gym starting on January 20th.  Classroom activites will start on January 25th and will be held in the LaSalle Springs health room.

All high-school aged Eureka players including returning varsity athletes and new players are strongly encouraged to attend the chalk talks and conditioning sessions at La Salle. These sessions are not mandatory but are "very, very" recommended.

To clarify:  if you are not playing in a winter sport AND do not have a prior commitment, the coaching staff expects you to be there.
Agenda:
  • Offensive and defensive schemes / plays / drills will be further developed
  • New concepts will be introduced
  • Gym activities will focus on speed, strength and agility
  • Student athlete needs (time managment, goals and objectives for self and team)

Suppose you hear that the only person who has a chance to beat you at this weekend’s golf match is ill and may have to withdraw. Are you overjoyed at your good luck or disappointed that you won’t be able to compete against the very best? If you really love and understand sports, you ought to be disappointed.

John Naber, the winner of four Olympic gold medals in swimming, says a true sportsman wants to compete against his best competitor on his best day. Yes, that makes winning more difficult and less likely, but it also makes the event more exciting and a victory more meaningful. Being declared the winner is not real victory; being the best is.
